NewAlliance Bancshares Inc. continues to emphasize that it cannot grow to the much larger size it envisions through de novo expansion alone but always look at acquisitions,President and CEO Peyton Patterson said Nov. 29 at the FBR 12th Annual Investor Conference in New York.
Acquisition is an ongoing process and when combined with dividend payouts and stock repurchases, are all intertwined as part of the New Haven, Conn.-based thrift’s capital management.Its all about the IRR when determining which combination of prongs to pursue at any given time.
Patterson said NewAlliance’s acquisition criteria are very disciplined, focusing on IRR, double-digit growth and earnings accretion within the first year. She also said that when expanding to out-of-state markets that New York would be but also pointed out that

HSBC the Europe’s biggest bank, will form a venture with Ping An Insurance (Group) Co as part of its partnership strategy to tap new business on China’s mainland.
The bank may submit an application for the venture to financial regulators before the end of the first quarter next year, as reported , citing Michael Smith, chief executive of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp.
China’s insurance market has been expanding by more than 25 percent annually in the past decade as booming economic growth bolstered personal incomes and the government encouraged citizens to turn to commercial insurance for protection and investment

Micron Technology Inc. and Intel Corp. will invest $5.2 billion in a new joint-venture company to produce memory devices used in digital cameras, cell phones, cam corders and MP3 players.
The deal, announced Monday, will give Micron the cash it needs to ramp up production of NAND flash memory, which industry analysts call the hottest product in electronics.
The news of the joint venture caused a flurry of trading in the two stocks Monday on Wall Street, but Micron and Intel shares were relatively unchanged when the markets closed. Micron ended the day at $14. 20, up 2 cents for the day on heavy trading, while Intel closed down 5 cents at $25.25.
